Math Fact Fun on the SMARTboard!

First grade students have started a unit on subtraction. The children enjoyed these Smart Notebook activities to practice the concepts of addition and subtraction with zero, subtracting to compare and answer the question, how many more? We used Halloween themed backgrounds, clip art and word problems to make learning fun! The children love learning in this interactive way!

Apple Poems

The students look for sight words, color words, and rhyming pairs in our poem of the week. I took a screen capture from the document camera so the students can use the pen tools to circle and underline words.

These are two of the interactive lessons that are part of our morning calendar math routine. We work on a variety of math skills daily including place value, counting coins, patterning, writing tally marks, graphing,addition, subtraction, writing numbers and skip counting.

Addition and Subtraction on the Smart board

We've started a new unit on addition and subtraction in math. The students practiced sums to ten using this Smart Notebook ten frame activity. We are learning about writing addition sentences, looking for key words for joining in word problems and math vocabulary such as plus, equals, minus, sum and difference.
