Poetry Binder

This week we started our poetry binders!The poem I select to introduce on Monday is usually one related to our weekly theme. We look for sight words, rhyming words and work on a variety of reading strategies and fluency activities as we learn our new poem of the week. The students love coloring and illustrating their poems. Poetry binders will come home every Friday so that the children can share their new poem with their family!

Halloween Bulletin Board

This will be our new Halloween bulletin board! The sign says:
Trick or Treat? Smell my feet. Can you guess who's under the sheet?
The children cut out ghosts and orange shoes. Behind their ghost will be a picture of each child. I will try to post a picture of the project when it is complete!

Fall Journal

The children were excited to decorate their new fall writing journal covers. During Daily Five Work on Writing, students will be the authors and illustrators of their own journal where they may write freely or write on an assigned topic. I will share these with parents at conferences.

Halloween Bling

I love black and anything that sparkles! I purchased these rhinestone decals at Target. The cauldron will be our October "bucket" for our Bucket Filler forms.

Sterling Heights Nature Center

Here are a few pictures of our field trip to the Nature Center! We really lucked out with the weather and were able to go outside looking for critters. Inside the center, the students got to touch a fox snake and a box turtle. Who knew turtles like to eat bananas? The Nature Center would be a great place for the whole family to visit! A flyer from the center will be sent home soon with more information on the special activities offered throughout the year.

My Too Cute Crayon Wreath!

While following other teacher's blogs, I saw a cute picture of a crayon wreath. So off we went to Joanne's to pick up the supplies for this craft! I found suggestions for a design and directions online. We used a wire frame, three boxes of crayons, two widths of ribbon, some plastic hands and lots of hot glue! The chalkboard was made by hand with construction paper and balsa wood and the apple formed from Sculpey clay.
